getting started
You've decided that you must homeshool, but how to begin? There are many options in California for the homeschool family and you'll need to familiarize yourself with them to make the best choice for your family.

charter schools and isps
You may want to begin as a part of a charter school program or one of the many public school, private or religious independent school programs. This will allow you to teach your student at home yet still have the guidance and structure that these programs provide. They can supply your curriculum and materials and will have organized classes and field trips planned. These programs usually maintain your state required files for each student, provide the recommended state testing, meet with you on a monthly basis to review the student's progress as well as issue report cards. Each program has it's own methods and requirements so be sure to shop around and find one that fits your families needs.

which way is best?
Only you can decide. What works for one family may not work for another, so be sure to explore your options. Talk with other families and then choose for yourself. You can always change directions if you find that your choice isn't working in your home. One of the beauties of homeschooling is having the freedom to choose and tailoring your choice to fit each individual family.
