about
faq
Immediately after launching our website, we received many questions
(interrogations?) regarding our newborn venture. For every
visitor compelled to inquire, we figured there may be more concerned
about who's behind this big idea. To the curious, we attempt to set
the record straight and extinguish any distracting thoughts of an
international conspiracy.
q:
who are you really?
It's been suggested that San Diego Homeschooling is run by the
overlords of an opportunistic corporation from the educational
underground with a heinous plan to take advantage of helpless
homeschoolers. An interesting plot for a Clancy novel, but, alas, we
can't claim the rights to Tom's next blockbuster.
The truth is out there. As humbly described in our about page, the force behind San Diego Homeschooling is a
family of four (plus two cats). Three were born right here in
beautiful San Diego -- people, that is, not cats. We really do
homeschool, and as an unintended result, we may have the smartest
felines in La Mesa.
q:
what method are you espousing?
We're not interested in splintering homeschoolers into fractious
denominations. After all, the very nature of homeschooling is rather
Sinatra-esque: you do it your way! Otherwise, we'd all be
shipping our dear ones off to public or private schools.
Our mission is to represent, encourage, and support homeschooling as a
wholly respectable endeavor by conveniently presenting beneficial
resources to our community. So no matter how you choose to
homeschool, you'll find valuable information here.
q:
what's your agenda?
Golly, there's no agenda, honestly! We've been homeschooling
long enough to know there is great stuff on the net for homeschoolers.
Unfortunately, the presentation traditionally has left much to be
desired. Homeschool websites need not be "homespun". We figured we'd
take on the challenge of contributing something unique and attractive
to homeschoolers in our fair city. Clearly, we've not been at
homeschool or web design long enough to to know better. A fool's
courage may be a blessing.
q:
why are you doing this?
OK, perhaps there is an agenda, but it wasn't premeditated.
In addition to attempting to establish a respectable community
resource, we're realizing that this is a labor of love and a truly
unique educational opportunity. Our kids browse innumerable web sites
(with supervision, of course). But beyond the rudimentary HTML that
makes a personal home page appear onscreen, do they appreciate what
goes on beyond the scenes? Of course, not. It's all point, click —
magic!
What better learning experience for homeschoolers than producing a
homeschooling site. They're gaining a new perspective on web sites
while acquiring practical business knowledge: creative content
development, familiarization with "back end" systems, managing
customer support, understanding the editorial process, and realizing
the discipline needed to stick with it even when its not always fun.
Despite feverishly exercising our fingers and brains, we're enjoying
the fruits of our toil.
But after nearly four years so far will our heroes be able to keep up
with the rigors of producing a vibrant and thriving homeschool
resource? Like all grand experiments, more observation is needed.
Stay tuned.
