HomePort San Diego - America's Finest City Guide

home about

our house
San Diego Homeschooling is the online resource for families homeschooling in America's finest city. Here you'll find valuable information to help educate your child while enriching your daily homeschool experience. Locate a park day. Find a math tutor. Get to know other families and discover what makes their homeschooling successful and rewarding.

about your hosts
Our story begins thusly. One day, a family of San Diego natives became restless after realizing something was missing in their community. The mother had years of homeschooling experience, child development, preschool and daycare expertise. The father, a local Internet business entrepreneur, had a few megabits of web sense and programming know-how. The sister -- an aspiring teenage novelist and artist -- regularly contributed reviews to the city's largest newspaper. And the son was nothing less than a professional boy. Together, they had the all the necessary credentials for helping other homeschool families by hosting the best online resource in town.

But if you want to learn more about what happens to the characters in this story (and trust me, a couple of them are real characters), you'll need to check this site regularly. Don't forget, you're an important part of the story, too. So keep in touch.

fans or fanatics?
We started homeschooling almost a decade ago at a time when homeschool was still considered a fringe endeavor. Often, after revealing our eager plans to homeschool, you'd think we announced we were going to load the Humvee with boxes of rations and ammo, and head for a compound in the hills to join a commune. And that was the reaction from relatives. Imagine how real people responded. Fortunately, the perception of homeschooling has improved much in a short period of time.

too cool for public school
Not only have you come to the right place to learn more about modern homeschooling, but we have good news for you. It's now officially cool to homeschool (even Dr. Laura agrees).

locomotivation
We are committed -- along with the rest of San Diego's veteran homeschoolers -- to encourage you in your quest. We'll help you get your homeschool steaming down the right track. But, as Will Rogers once said, "Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there." To keep from being derailed, visit us regularly for great tips, ideas, and support from others to help keep your homeschool engines stoked.
